Something for the Patio?

With the hot summer months upon us once again, the family will want to spend time enjoying the sunshine and one of the great places to do that is on the patio or around the pool. But while its great to sunbathe, it can also be dangerous to do it for too long, let alone become uncomfortable when its really hot. A great way of staying cool and keeping out of the direct rays of the sun is to get under some shade. On the patio, what better way than to have a few patio umbrellas dotted about so that people can get under them whenever they feel like it.

If you don’t already have them, then these can make wonderful family gifts for those occasions such as fathers day or for birthdays when you can’t think of anything else to give someone in the family. You’ll be surprised how much use one of these will get during the summer months – probably a sight more use than some latest gadget that becomes obsolete a few weeks after you buy it when the manufacturer goes and brings out a new model!

So if you’re racking your brains over what to get someone that you know loves to spend a lot of time outdoors in the sun, then consider one of the many types and designs of patio umbrellas that are available from all good stockists in mainstream stores as well as online.

Someone will doubtless be surprised at your ingenuity at finding them a gift that they’ll get a lot of use out of as well as it being relatively inexpensive. So make someone’s day today and get them something useful, practical and extremely decorative that they’ll enjoy spending many hours lounging under. In fact, you could double up and get them a great comfortable sun bed or even a hammock to go beneath the umbrella for maximum relaxation and chill factor!

Make a Gift of a Power Tool

Power tools make great gifts for the handyman husband or boyfriend or father or even grown up son. So how many times have you stressed over what to buy one of the important men in your life for their birthday, Christmas, fathers day or other important occasion? Well, if they like to be hands on when in comes to repairs or even building jobs around the house, then what about a power tool?

There are some great ones to choose from. Probably the top power tool is that all important electric drill, but most blokes probably already own one of those. And chances are it will be a top range model because when a man is serious about his power tools, he makes sure he gets the best drill he can afford! But there are plenty of other power tools that he may well not already own, or he may have one that is aging and in need of replacement sometime pretty soon.

Then its your turn to strike while that particular iron is hot with a brand new tool that he will appreciate more than you would probably realize! There are power routers, power saws of all descriptions, power screwdrivers, cutters, grinders and sanders. Just head along to your local DIY superstore or hardware mega store and you will be in awe of the incredible selection of powered man stuff hanging in the aisles – row after row after row of them!

If you are then stuck for a suitable gift from the immense selection that you will come face to face with, it may be a good idea to find out what he needs first. No point in coming home with an angle grinder that he may never use if all he does is wood work. Alternatively, a router is only of use to someone who likes to make cabinets or repair or refurbish them as this is a tool that is not much use to the man who just wants to put up some doors or refurbish flat wood surfaces.

For this, there are many types of power sanders that might just fit the bill. Choose from orbital or belt sanders and do a little research into what the better brands are and the quality versus practicality and cost. You can come up with some great choices that you can narrow down to what your man intends to do with the tool, or at least what his primary interests are in the field of woodwork and repairs.

Cheap Halloween Gifts for Trick or Treat

Welcome back to Cheap Gifts, where we’re going to look at some ideas for cheap Halloween gifts that you can give out to the kids that come around knocking on your door for trick or treat! Of course, you need to be smart here and make sure the treats themselves don’t look too cheap or tacky or you may find yourself on the receiving end of some spoiled little darling’s indignation and being given a dud!

So you need to use a little creativity here to produce Halloween gift that not only look like they may have cost a reasonable amount, but also will give some wow value to the recipient while still remaining a cheap gift from your own perspective. In other words you don’t spend much money to end up with a gift worthy of even the most nasty, mean spoiled little brat in the neighborhood. Although in some cases, there is no pleasing some kids and anything short of an iPod or hand held game machine is going to be met with a baleful look of displeasure and arrogant haughtiness. Ok, you can’t please them all!

But most kids will be pleased with even the most humble Halloween gift as long as it looks like it may give them some value in either collectibility or swap-ability with the other kids for something better! After all, in the main they’re not really expecting anything over the top unless you happen to be known as the local millionaire (and most of them are the worst Scrooges when it comes to giving anything away for Trick or Treat!). So you’ll probably get away with some decent looking albeit cheap gifts for Halloween this year.

So whatever you end up with and end up giving out to the neighborhood’s kids this Trick or Treat, as long as you get a grateful smile and a mumbled thanks, that’s worth its weight in gold because you hit the right chord somewhere in there. Good luck!

Cheap Birthday Gift Ideas

Welcome once again to Cheap Gifts, where we’re going to take a look at getting around the problem of giving a birthday gift to someone that you’re not necessarily close to when you are on a tight budget, without upsetting them by giving them an obviously cheap birthday gift!

Now there are plenty of ways in which to satisfy the equation of buying something fore a relatively small sum of money while having the core component of a valid and seemingly valuable gift for someone’s birthday. The trick is to get something that is quite small and inexpensive and then go to work on it by embellishing it with extras that you can either find that you have already lying around the house, or that can be purchased inexpensively.

Things that embellish a small, inexpensive gift would be things like bows and ribbons added to a nice looking presentation box that is much better than the original, or infinitely better than the paper bag it came in! You could also add crafted additions such as embroidered badges to clothing items or handkerchiefs, and even personalize such items by sewing or embroidering the recipient’s name on them.

You can add small decorative additions to plain ornaments or even, if you have the skill and a steady hand, paint some on yourself! Even taking a plain looking vase and using stencils, spray on some enamel paint to really liven them up and even personalize them.

Of you are into arts and crafts and own an engraving tool, then what better way to create more expensive looking gifts from cheap trinkets than by personalizing them by engraving the recipient’s name on them?

So you see, you can actually get away with quite a lot of things when it comes to giving a not so close friend or acquaintance a birthday gift that does not have to cost very much at all. As long as it looks like it might be worth something without looking tacky, then you’ll have gotten around a problem and kept someone happy both at the same time! See you again real soon…
